ENGAGEMENT RINGS SETTINGS

ENGAGEMENT RING SETTINGS

How the stone of an engagement ring is displayed and secured on the band is known as the ring setting. There are many different ring settings, some of which are described below. We invite you to come and see us in store to have a look at the different types of ring settings in person.

CLAW

This is possibly the most traditional ring setting. Claw like prongs reach from under the ring to securely clasp the stone. The claws can be a variety of sizes and metal, the number of claws can also vary and make a big difference to the overall look of a ring.

BEZEL

With the bezel set, the stone is completely surrounded by the metal, making it very secure. An alternative is the half bezel setting where two sides are removed. With the half bezel, the stone can also be seen from the side and its brilliance can shine from the top.

CHANNEL

Several stones are set in a row inside a channel between two horizontal sides of gold. No metal separates each individual stone and so the effect provides maximum sparkle.

FLUSH

In a flush set, the diamonds are embedded into the band itself, usually with a prominent centre stone which draws attention.

TENSION

The stone is suspended between two ends of the band allowing you to view as much of it as possible. If you have selected an exquisitely cut stone, then this setting will show it off to perfection, however be aware that this is one of the least secure engagement ring settings.

BAR

Stones are held firmly into place by slim vertical bars of metal placed between them, this gives an effect of clean lines and order.

CLUSTER

The setting displays a cluster of several small stones surrounding a larger central stone, making it appear as one individual large stone.

PAVE

Pave is where the stones are all grouped close together so as to not show any metal. The stones are in fact held in place by tiny claws.
